The holidays are over and now here’s the next step: lose the weight that you’ve gained from all those dinner and family gatherings. Sure it’s fun to enjoy those home cooked meals that you’ve longed for along with the desserts and unlimited amount of pastries in the table. For a number of people, diet takes the backseat during this season. And now its time to shed those unwanted pounds.

The New Year brings a promise of hope and another chance to get on the right track. Here are some weight loss tips to start the year fit and healthy:

  1. Start by having a diet plan. Set short and long term goals with regards to your weight. Having these goals will provide you with the motivation to shed those pounds. Keep in mind that this is a long term process and won’t happen overnight. Set a positive outlook; remember that it takes hard work to achieve your ideal weight.
  2. Make sure to include the right kind of foods in your diet program. Losing weight is not about starving. You can eat up to five meals in a day but in small portions. It is also important to have all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Plan and prepare your meals ahead of time. Look for healthier substitutes to your everyday favorites. Instead of coffee in the morning opt for a fruit smoothie for breakfast.  Avoid fatty and foods that are high in cholesterol.
  3. Diet alone will not do the work it should be combines with the right exercise routine. The best way to lose belly fat is to do a set of crunches or sit ups. Burn all those calories in the gym or engage in activities such as running.

Keep track of your progress and gradually increase the intensity of your routines as your body becomes accustomed to working out. Losing weight does not mean depriving yourself of the good stuff, just learn how to eat healthy and in moderation.
